Every demo looks the same. The first month does not.
Every school bus tracking demo shows a bus moving on a map. That part is easy. What separates a system your office will still use in March from one that is quietly abandoned by August is everything around the map: whether parents actually trust it, whether drivers can use it without training, and whether the office stops getting phone calls.
These twelve questions are the ones we would ask if we were buying. Ask them of any provider — including us.
About parents
1. Do parents see the bus moving, or a pin that jumps every few minutes? A pin that jumps teaches parents not to trust the app, and they go back to calling the office.
2. Does the ETA come from the actual road and the stop's timing, or from a straight line? Straight-line ETAs are wrong on every route with a bend in it.
3. Is the parent app free for parents, on both Android and iPhone? If parents are asked to pay, a large share will not install it, and those families keep calling.
4. Can a parent choose Hindi? A father who reads Hindi faster should not have to decode an English button at 7 in the morning.
About the bus and the driver
5. What happens when the bus is in an area with no network? A good device keeps recording and sends the trail when the signal returns; a good driver app keeps boarding scans on the phone and uploads them later. Ask to see it, not just hear it.
6. How does the driver know the route and the stop order? Printed lists get lost. The driver should see the route on the phone, with navigation to the next stop.
7. Is there an SOS button, and who does it alert? It should reach the school office immediately, with the location, and never be switched off to save money.
About the office
8. Can the office see every bus on one map at once, and filter by route? A system that shows one bus at a time does not help on the morning a bus is late.
9. Is attendance recorded automatically when a child taps a card, and can it be exported? Paper registers on a bus are rarely filled in on time, and never when it rains.
10. Can the office build and change routes on the map itself, or does every change mean a call to the provider? Routes change every session; you should not need anyone's permission.
About money and lock-in
11. How is it priced — per bus, per student, or per parent? Per-bus pricing is the easiest to budget and does not punish a school for enrolling more children. Ask what is extra: SMS, installation, SIM data, support.
12. Who owns the data, and can you take it with you? Attendance and trip history are your school's records. You should be able to export them at any time.
What Bharat Tracker answers
We built Bharat Tracker around these questions: the bus moves smoothly on every parent's phone at the same moment, ETAs follow the real road, the parent app is free on Android and iPhone and works in Hindi and English, driver scans work offline, every bus is on one map for the office, and pricing is per bus.
If you would like to check those answers for yourself, sign up on our website — we call you within a day and show you the whole system working on a live bus before you decide anything.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to start?
Once the plan is agreed, devices are fitted bus by bus and routes are drawn on the map. Many schools go live on a few buses first and add the rest over the following weeks.
Do we need to buy phones for drivers?
No. The driver app runs on an ordinary Android smartphone, which most drivers already have.
Can we try it on one bus first?
Yes. Starting with one or two buses is the best way to see how parents and drivers take to it before rolling it out to the whole fleet.
